Professor Osaretin Albert Taiwo EBUEHI is the Deputy Provost, College of Medicine of the University of Lagos. Professor Osaretin Albert Taiwo EBUEHI was born in Benin City, Nigeria. He had his Primary School in Benin City, with FSLC Distinction and secondary education at Edo College, Benin City, with Division One in WASCE in 1980. He is a graduate of the University of Lagos, Nigeria, where he obtained a B.Sc.(Hons.) (1985), M.Phil. (1990) & Ph.D. (1995) in Biochemistry; an MBA (1999) and a Distinction in PGD (2002). He won the Nigerian Breweries Prize as the Best Biochemistry student in the 1982/1983 & 1983/1984 academic sessions. His areas of specialization are Neuro-Biochemistry, Nutritional Biochemistry, Food Science and Nutrigenomics.
Prof. O.A.T. Ebuehi started his academic career as a Graduate Assistant in Dept. of Biochemistry, Univ. of Lagos (1988-1994). As a result of his scholarly achievements and diligence, he was appointed as a Lecturer II in the Dept. of Biochemistry, Unilag, in 1995. He rose rapidly through the ranks of Lecturer 1 (1996), Senior Lecturer (1999), Associate Professor (2003), and in 2009, he was appointed a Professor of Biochemistry in Unilag. He was also appointed a Visiting Professor and International Scientist at the Vaal Univ. of Technology, Vanderbijpark, South Africa, where he lectured and researched in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, between 2006 and 2007. He is an External Assessor for Professorial Appointment in in several Public and Private Universities in Nigeria & Abroad. He has served as an External Examiner in Biochemistry for Part II MBBS Professional Examinations, B.Sc.(Hons.), M.Sc., M.Phil. & Ph.D. Biochemistry programs in several National and International Universities. He is an Honorary Lecturer, at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (1998-date).
Prof. O.A.T. Ebuehi is a Fellow and Member of several professional bodies. He is a Fellow of the Nig. Institute of Food Science &Technology (NIFST), a Fellow, Nig. Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (NSBMB), Fellow, Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria, Fellow, Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria, Member, American Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, International Society of Neurochemistry, New York Academy of Sciences, Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), to mention but a few. Prof. Ebuehi has served the University of Lagos and several Universities in several academic and administrative capacities, Professor & Head, Dept. of Biochemistry, Unilag (2011-2014), Chairman, Postgraduate Educ. Committee, CMUL, Coordinator, B.Sc Hons. Program, Medical /Dental Program, Exams. & Time Table Officer, SIWES, Course Adviser, NUC Accreditation Panel, etc. As an astute scholar, he has won numerous scholarship awards, nationally and internationally for himself and the University of Lagos.
Professor O.A.T. Ebuehi has served as the Vice-Chairman, ASUU, Unilag branch (1999-2002), Congregation Rep on the Senate, Unilag (2002-2008) and a Member of Senate & Senate Committees, Unilag (2009-date), among others. He has attended over 250 scientific conferences & workshops nationally and internationally, to present papers. He has supervised over 380 undergraduate final year Biochemistry projects, 145 M.Sc. Project students and 20 Ph.D. Biochemistry graduates of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Prof. Ebuehi is a prolific writer and author of over 230 research articles published in learned / peer-reviewed national and international journals. He was the Editor-in-Chief, Nig. Food Journal (2004-2007) & Nig. Quarterly Journal of Hospital Medicine (2008-2017) & Vice-President, NSBMB (2015-2019). He is a recipient of the International Brain Research Organization Fellowship, International Nutrition Foundation (USA), Netherlands Fellowship Programme, New Partnership for Africa Development, African Nutrition Leadership Programme, SA, African Malaria Network Trust Scholarship, Research Grants by AKZO Nobel (Singapore, Netherlands, USA), TETFund, Univ. of Lagos Central Research Grants, etc.
